Surnaad was setup in 1985 to promote
and provide training for Indian classical music. As a promoter it
has organised concert with some of the leading Indian classical
musicians at venues ranging from the south bank to many regional
arts centres. Established Artists include Rajan and Sajan Mishra,
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Ustad Shaffat Ahmed
Khan. As a training provider Surnaad holds regular
classes at all levels but specialises in the master class format.
Surnaad's aims and objectives
To encourage and promote the study of Indian Classical
Music with classes, lessons, concerts and workshops.
The promotion of British based Indian classical musicians.
This project will further help raise the
profile of professional artists.
This project will further add to the small and occasional high
calibre indian
classical music concerts held in London.
Surnaad's Previous projects
AROH, AVROH was naad's main project for 1995-1996. It was a series
of concerts featuring british based artistes of indian classical
music these concerts included Gurdev Singh on sarod, Satish Vyas
on santoor accompanied by Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari on tabla.
The title Aroh, Avroh literally means the ascent and descent of
musical notes aroh/avroh concerts featuring artists mentioned
above will begin in london and tour nationally.
Surnaad's Target audience and marketing
The concerts will be targetted at regular Indian classical music
concert attenders as well as reach newer audiences by means of
the media with a series of concerts profiling british based artists
on the same platform as the visiting artists.
Surnaad hopes to achieve a long overdue commitment and realisation
both from artists and audiences. Marketing the concerts
has been done through the normal route of advertising, leaflets
posters and mailing lists of venues as well as Surnaad 's own
sources. The pricing structures will be such that newer audiences
are always attracted.
Surnaad is always highly interested in plans for experimental
fusion work with modern western artists. Please contact

Surnaad hopes to organise similar concerts in India profiling
some of the British based artistes. The
concerts will feature new improvisations of existing Raags.
